Edwin Munroe/Monroe Bacon (1844-1916) was an American author and journalist. He went to private schools in Providence, Boston and Philadelphia. At the age of 19 he became a reporter for The Boston Advertiser and later The Illustrated Chicago News before joining The New York Times, where he was the Managing Editor till 1872. In 1883, he became the Editor in Chief of The Daily Advertiser and then of The Boston Post. In 1891 he retired and devoted his time completely to literature.
