Richard Gargiulo is a Professor of Special Education in the School of Education at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He has a Master's degree and Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In 1999, he was awarded the University's President's Award for Excellence in Teaching. He has also served as a Fulbright Scholar to the Czech Republic and has authored numerous books on the subjects of special education, early childhood education, and child abuse and neglect.

Debbie Metcalf currently works in partnership with Pitt County Schools and East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina. She is an Intervention Specialist for Pitt County Schools and serves as a Teacher-in-Residence in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at East Carolina University. She teaches methods courses and works in the classroom with undergraduate pre-service teachers. Debbie holds a Master of Arts in Education from San Diego State University and is certified in both general and special education, including assistive technology.
