While in college, Morton Cooper lost his voice. Two well-meaning professors had advised him to use a deep-throated voice to replace his own nasal-sounding voice. Soon, he developed laryngitis, tired voice, and habitual throat clearing, with his voice becoming increasingly inaudible. After seeing 12 doctors about his problem, the 13th diagnosed a misused speaking voice. Following several months of voice training, Cooper decided to specialize in speech and the speaking voice. Dr. Cooper holds a Bachelor's degree from Brooklyn College, a Master's degree from Indiana University, and a Doctoral degree from UCLA. He was the director of the voice and speech clinic at UCLA Medical Center, and a… clinical assistant professor of the head and neck division, also at UCLA Medical Center. Dr. Cooper has written several books, including Modern Techniques of Vocal Rehabilitation, which has been used worldwide as a college textbook for more than 15 years. Some other notable works include Change Your Voice, Change Your Life; Winning With Your Voice; and Committing Voice Suicide. Dr. Cooper travels extensively as a speaker and has appeared on many television talk shows, including the Oprah Winfrey Show, The Today Show, and Good Morning, America. Dr. Cooper is in private practice in Los Angeles.
