Michael J. McAfee is an author of numerous books and articles. He is a collector of Civil War photography and an authority on Civil War uniforms, particularly Zouaves. He is a curator at the West Point Museum at the United States Military Academy.Don Troiani attended the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and New York City's Art Students League. His artwork is in numerous major collections, including American Heritage magazine, the National Park Service, the U. S. Military Academy at West Point, the Pentagon, and the Smithsonian Institute.

Brian C. Pohanka is a frequent lecturer and consultant for film and television productions on the Civil War, including Gettysburg and Andersonville. He was the series consultant to the History Channel's Civil War Journal. Pohanka is one of the nation's leading authorities on the life of the common soldier of the Civil War and is captain of the Fifth New York Zouaves living history organization. He is the author of Distant Thunder: A Photographic Essay on the American Civil War, The Civil War: An aerial Portrait, and Don Troiani's Civil War. He lives in Alexandria, Virginia.

The author of more than forty books, WILLIAM C. DAVIS is the director of programs at the Virginia Center for Civil War Studies. He is also chief consultant for the A&E television series Civil War Journal and teaches history at Virginia Tech.
