J�hanna Krist�n Birnir is an assistant professor of political science at the State University of New York at Buffalo. She received her PhD from the University of California, Los Angeles, in 2001. She has done extensive field research in Eastern Europe and Latin America. She has published articles in Comparative Political Studies, Studies in Comparative International Development, Research Policy, Journal of Engineering and Technology Management, and Nationalism and Ethnic Politics.
