Author of novels and short stories, Elinor Lipman was born October 16, 1950 in Lowell, Mass. and earned an B.A. from Simmons College. After college, Lipman worked as a public information officer for the Massachusetts Labor Relations Commission. She also worked as a managing editor for the Massachusetts Teachers Association, and she was a special instructor in communications at Simmons College. She served as visiting assistant professor of creative writing from at Hampshire College in Amherst, Mass.
