Emily Kissner is the author of the Heinemann titles The Forest AND the Trees and Summarizing, Paraphrasing, and Retelling. She has been a classroom teacher for eleven years and has taught fourth, sixth, and seventh grades. She continues to be fascinated with the fine details of how students process text, use reading strategies, and develop into literate individuals. She enjoys discussing classroom practice with her husband Steve, who is also a teacher, and spends much of her time ouside of school exploring nature with her two sons, Zachary and Aidan.
