Joseph S. M. Lau is professor of Chinese Literature at Lingnan University in Hong Kong. He is the editor of Chinese Stories from Taiwanand coeditor of Traditional Chinese Stories: Themes and Variationsand Modern Chinese Stories and Novellas: 1919-1949.Howard Goldblatt is professor of East Asian languages and literatures at the University of Notre Dame and an internationally renowned translator. He has published English translations of more than thirty novels and short story collections and has authored many books on Chinese literature.
