Fumiko Hayashi (1904-1951) was a novelist and short story writer. Her novels won both critical and popular acclaim in Japan. She is considered one of the most important Japanese novelists of the twentieth century.Lane Dunlop's translations from the Japanese include the anthology A Late Chrysanthemum, two novellas by Nagai Kafu, and a short story collection by Kawabata Yasunari. He is a recipient of an Academy Award in Literature from the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
