Doris Schneider is a former Professor of Theatre Arts at North Carolina Central University. By Way of Water is her second novel, a companion piece to her first novel, Borrowed Things. She lives in both eastern and western North Carolina in a small Inner Banks town on the Pamlico River and in a cabin in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Schneider is an artist as well as a writer.
