Frances June Storlie, born in Lodi, CA in 1925, spent her childhood as a migrant until her family settled in SW Washington in 1937. A graduate of Clark College's first nursing class, she continued her education at the University of Oregon, earning a Ph.D. in urban studies from Portland State University. The author of five health care books and 124 published health care articles, she was the nurse-editor for the Heart & Lung Journal during its inaugural year of 1976. As a Charter Nurse Member of the Oregon Regional Medical Program, Dr. Storlie helped to setup, plan and advise coronary care units in Oregon and Washington. She became one of the first licensed Nurse Practitioners in Oregon,… taught in the graduate schools of Arizona State University and the University of Nevada setting up Nurse Practitioner programs, and spent the last years of her professional practice as a clinical director and nurse practitioner in Vancouver, WA. Dr. Storlie has traveled to Mexico, Central and South America on 38 medical mission trips and 7 trips to the Mississippi Coast. She pent several weeks on the Gulf Coast following Hurricane Katrina. While there, she volunteered for the American Red Cross, provided first aid for volunteers and donated time to a soup kitchen. A life-long social maverick., Dr. Storlie insists that patient care be an Affair of the Heart and nothing less!
