You\u2019re done with college.\u00a0You\u2019ve studied your last set of lecture notes, passed your last final and sold your last textbook (to TextbookRush, right?). That means it\u2019s time to celebrate!\u00a0And prepare for the real world \u2013 THE JOB INTERVIEW.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Job interviews can feel very scary, but they don\u2019t have to be. Think of this next step as an opportunity for you to show off all you have learned.\u00a0It\u2019s a chance to highlight the parts of your skill set that are perfect for the job.\u00a0It\u2019s a chance to take all that knowledge for college and apply it to the real world! I recommend being prepared with stories that highlight the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Your strengths.<\/li>
  2. Your flexibility.<\/li>
  3. Your leadership.<\/li>
  4. Your ability and interest to continue to learn.<\/li>
  5. Contributions you\u2019ve made in the past.<\/li>
  6. Creative problem-solving skills in a team environment.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    When you\u2019re preparing these stories, think about how your answers qualify you for this particular job.\u00a0You shouldn\u2019t have the same stories for every interview. You want to craft your stories to fit the position you are applying for.\u00a0This applies to resumes too!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \u201cYou don’t have to send the same resume for every job. Tailor your resume for the job\/company you are applying for by emphasizing certain experiences and\/or objectives.\u201d<\/em><\/p>Jeff B., Customer Care Manager at TextbookRush<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

    It\u2019s also important to make a list of questions that you would like to ask during the interview.\u00a0I recommend the following questions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    1. What are the daily expectations of the job?<\/li>
    2. How will my performance be measured?<\/li>
    3. Can you explain the structure of the organization?<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

      Remember, it is important to do research on the company prior to your interview.\u00a0You want to show the interviewer that you are interested in this particular job AND company.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      \u201cMake sure you do research on the company and that you have some relevant questions prepared to ask the person conducting the interview.       Once you\u2019ve practiced all I\u2019ve listed, it\u2019s important to just remember the basics.\u00a0You want to hold yourself in a way that looks positive.\u00a0Your body language should be open, receptive and confident.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      1. Give a firm hand shake.<\/li>
      2. Maintain eye contact.<\/li>
      3. Listen carefully.<\/li>
      4. Give honest answers.<\/li>
      5. Remember to SMILE!<\/li>
      6. End the interview with a good impression.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

        If you really want the job, say so!\u00a0Find out if there will be additional interviews and ask when the employer plans to make a decision.\u00a0It\u2019s ok to be eager (within reason \u2013 I don\u2019t recommend begging).\u00a0And of course, don\u2019t forget to send a thank-you note after the interview.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
