She is an accomplished gardener who has lived in Arizona for more than 20 years. Mary Irish is one of the leading voices for horticulture in Arizona. Her previous two books on native plants of the Southwest have positioned Mary as a qualified expert on plants that thrive in the unique conditions of the desert Southwest. She is past director of the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix and is a frequent lecturer across the Southwest. Mary is also a highly regarded horticultural photographer.

MO RAY is Research Fellow in the School of Social Relations, University of Keele, UK. She has worked as a practitioner and manager in a specialist team for older people and in a community care team. She has also taught for several years at the Open University and has been a practice teacher.   JUDITH PHILLIPS is Professor of Social Work and Gerontology, Swansea University, UK.
