Wendy Doniger is the Mircea Eliade Professor of the History of Religions in the Divinity School and a professor in the Department of South Asian Languages and Civilizations and the Committee on Social Thought at the University of Chicago. She is the author of numerous books, including, most recently, The Woman Who Pretended to Be Who She Was.

Arvind Krishna Mehrotra is a well-known poet, critic, and translator. He teaches English at the University of Allahabad. His books include The Transfiguring Placesand The Absent Traveller: Prakrit Love Poetry from the Gathasaptasatiand he has edited the Oxford India Anthology of Twelve Modern Indian Poets.

Kabir(1398-1518) was an extraordinary satirist, philosopher, and oral poet whose works have been sung and recited by millions throughout North India for half a millennium. Arvind Krishna Mehrotrawas the recipient of a 2009 PEN Translation Fund grant for his work on the poems of Kabir. He is head of the Department of English at the University of Allahabad. Wendy Donigeris the Mircea Eliade Distinguished Service Professor of the History of Religions at the University of Chicago.
