The goal of this text is to help students engage in a thoughtful process of inquiry to more intentionally and consciously develop their knowledge and nursing practice, develop their confidence and ability to act in alignment with their nursing values, and to navigate the complexities of contemporary health care settings as they care for patients and families. Highlights of the first Edition, To Illustrate: This feature focuses on illustrating particular ideas and/or some larger and more general arguments. The authors include a number of real stories from patients and families, former students, practicing nurses and clinical nurse specialists to bring the ideas in the text to life. Try It Out: Try It Out features are learning activities that engage students in a range of ways with the content in the chapter. These learning activities, typically three or four per chapter, can be incorporated into activities in classrooms, clinical settings, online, or other teaching-learning settings. Text Boxes: Many of the chapters include text boxes to summarize and highlight some of the key relational inquiry ideas and/or strategies. An Example: This feature presents a story that illustrates a point being made in the text. The authors often return to the story in the chapter in which it is presented and in subsequent chapters.
