Written in an entertaining, teacher-friendly, easy-to-read style with classroom examples, boxed features, and detailed sample lessons, the book covers checking for understanding, lesson objectives, activating prior knowledge, concept and skills development, guided practice, and much more.

John Hollingsworth is president of DataWORKS Educational Research, a company that uses real data to improve student achievement. In addition to his work at DataWORKS training teachers and administrators throughout the U.S.,Hollingsworth is an active researcher and presenter who has published numerous articles in educational magazines and coauthored Multiple Measures: Accurate Ways to Assess Student Achievement (Corwin Press2000).

Silvia Ybarra began her career in education as a physics and chemistry teacher at Roosevelt High School in Fresno, California.
