She has conducted ethnographic research among neuroscientists in England and among residents and government officials involved in the response to Hurricane Katrina. She recently published an edited volume Dynamics of Disaster: Lessons On Risk, Response, And Recovery (with Barbara L. Allen). Dr. Dowty received the 2009 Service-Learning Scholars Award for effectively incorporating community service into her courses.
