Lszl Tihanyi is a graduate of the Budapest Technical University. He earned an M.Sc. degree in electrical engineering in 1969. After graduation, Mr. Tihanyi began working at the Research Institute for Electrical Industry (VKI) in Budapest. In 1972, he received the title of "research expert" and in 1978 became the "senior research expert." His activities included development of high-power thyristorized and transistorized dc power supplies and, later, dc/ac converters and uninterruptible power supplies. In 1985, Mr. Tihanyi accepted the position of Chief Research Consultant in the Institute for Power Electronics. Here, he focused primarily on solving EMI problems in electronic systems… and development of a dimensioning method for powerline filters. From 1988 until 1990, he headed up the Department of Power Electronics at the Institute. The author presently works as a consultant and free-lance technical writer.
