Jane Rule was born in New Jersey in 1931 and moved to Canada in 1956. She is the author of eleven novels, includingDesert of the Heart andHot-Eyed Moderate. She was named to the Order of Canada in 2007. She lived on Galiano Island, British Columbia for many years, until her death in 2007.
