Art Wolfe was born on September 13, 1951 in Seattle. He grew up loving the outdoors and has a cherished memory of coming face to face with a moose as he was canoeing on the Bowron Lakes in Canada. He attended the University of Washington and graduated with a bachelor's degree in Fine Arts and Arts Education. At that time photography was just an elective, but he soon incorporated his knowledge of the arts into his love of photography. Because he was new to the field, he couldn't get the cooperation of traditional publishers so he established his own publishing company in 2000. With his company, The Wildlands Press, he put out his first book - The Living Wild. This gave him the recognition he needed and the Outstanding Nature Photographer of the Year Award from the North American Nature Photography Association. He also received the first ever Rachel Carson Award from the National Audubon Society. In 2000 he was awarded the Alfred Eisenstaedt Award for Magazine Photography in Nature and Environment. Art Wolfe is one of the most celebrated nature and wildlife photographers of our day. His passion is for creating books - 45 in 25 years - and for providing photographs for them. Art Wolfe then went on to the realm of television with the same energy he used exploring the world. Some of the shows he worked on were Techniques of the Masters, American Photo Safari and Travels to the edge.
