He received his Ph.D. from University of Kansas in 1979. He is Professor and Chair of the Department of Communication at The University of Memphis. He is the recipient of nine distinguished scholarship awards and is Past President of the Central States Communication Association and recipient of the Outstanding Young Teacher Award from that organization.
