Professor Xuan-Thao Nguyen focuses on the interdisciplinary aspects of intellectual property, licensing, e-commerce, commercial law and taxation in her teaching and scholarship. Professor Nguyen has published 28 law review articles in the areas of intellectual property, secured financing, bankruptcy and taxation. She was the first American law professor to lecture at Vietnam National University Faculty of Law in Hanoi. She provides technical expertise to the Vietnamese government, law schools and bar associations. She was a Senior Fulbright Scholar in 2009 at VNU Faculty of Law; she developed a new Intellectual Property law curriculum and trained law teachers in pedagogical methods while at the Faculty of Law. She organizes and chairs the SMU Dedman School of Law's Annual Symposium on Emerging Intellectual Property Issues. Since 2009 Professor Nguyen co-organizes with Professor Peter Raad the annual Games:Business:Law Summit. In October 2011, Professor Nguyen organized the China IP Now Symposium wherein Chinese judges, law professors and lawyers convened to discuss the latest IP developments and innovations in China. Professor Nguyen teaches Secured Transactions, Payment Systems, The Internet/Law of Electronic Commerce, Intellectual Property, Licensing Intellectual Property, and International Intellectual Property at SMU Dedman School of Law. Prior to entering academia, she practiced law at Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson (New York City) and Pryor, Cashman, Sherman & Flynn (New York City). Professor Nguyen is registered to practice with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
