A MAGICAL NIGHT WHEN SECRET WISHES CAN COME TRUE On a rainy afternoon, three sisters wish for the rain to stoop, wish they could play in the puddles, wish for something, anything,to do. So Ying-Ying, their grandmother, tells them a tale from long ago. On the night of the Moon Festival, when Ying-ying was a little girl, she encountered the Moon Lady, who grants the secret wishes of those who ask, and learned from her that the best wishes are those you can make come true yourself. This haunting tale, adapted from Amy Tan's best-seller The Joy Luck Cluband enhanced by Gretchen Schields's rich, meticulously detailed art, is a book for all to treasure.

Writer Amy Tan was born on February 19, 1952 in Oakland, California. She received a master's degree in linguistics from San Jose State University. She worked as a freelance business writer, but eventually turned to fiction. Her first book, The Joy Luck Club, was nominated for the National Book Award and the National Book Critics Circle Award and was a recipient of the Commonwealth Gold Award. The Joy Luck Club was also adapted into a feature film in 1994. Tan's titles have been translated into more than 20 languages. Her other novels include: The Kitchen God's Wife, The Bonesetter's Daughter, and The Valley of Amazement.

Gretchen Schields is a published author and an illustrator of children's books. Some of the published credits of Gretchen Schields include Bow Wow Meow (Sagwa), Sagwa, The Chinese Siamese Cat: Acrobat Cats, Princess Sheegwa (Sagwa The Chinese Siamese Cat).
