THE WORLD OF WORDS: VOCABULARY FOR COLLEGE SUCCESS, Eighth Edition, is designed to teach you the vocabulary you need for academic success. But Professor Margaret Richek also shares time-tested methods for learning unfamiliar words on your own. To make learning new words easier, fun photographs provide clues to word meanings. Included online exercises let you test your understanding of vocabulary words, and audio lessons teach you how to pronounce each word correctly. Through a series of carefully paced lessons, you will learn three critical skills: learning to make the dictionary work for you; discovering how to figure out a word's meaning without the help of a dictionary; and gaining understanding of hundreds of words by learning the meaning of just a few dozen Greek and Latin roots. Easy to use and entertaining, THE WORLD OF WORDS: VOCABULARY FOR COLLEGE SUCCESS, Eighth Edition, will open up a whole new world of words for you.

Margaret Richek, a specialist in vocabulary development, received her Ph.D. in education in 1974 from the University of Chicago. For many years, she served on the faculty of Northeastern Illinois University, teaching developmental reading courses to college students. She has published scholarly articles, presented across the United States, and been featured in a video on strategies for vocabulary learning. She is the author of VOCABULARY FOR ACHIEVEMENT, a series of textbooks for grades 3 through 12, as well as THE WORLD OF WORDS: VOCABULARY FOR COLLEGE SUCCESS. She served as a long-term consultant for Roosevelt University in Chicago and the Bureau of Education and Research. Currently, she is Professor Emerita of Northeastern Illinois University and President Elect of the Chicago Area Reading Association.
