The author then explores the major schools of family therapy and such figures as Minuchin, Bowen, Whitaker, Haley, Erickson, and Ackerman, as well as the revolutionary work of Selvini Palazzoli.

L. F. Hoffman is a food-and-wine writer. He is from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Before beginning to write, Hoffman worked as a merchant seaman, chef, bartender, and college professor. In 1997, he published The Bachelor's Cat: A Love Story, about a man with a stressful career as an artist and his beautiful, but manipulative, girlfriend.
