Gary Morris published and edited Bright Lights Film Journal as a print magazine from 1974 to 1980, and again from 1992 to 1995. From 1996 to the present it has been an online-only publication. He is the author of the monograph Roger Corman (1985) in the prestigious Twayne Theatrical Arts series. Since the 1980s, he has written on film and the arts for many publications, including SF Weekly, San Francisco Chronicle, San Francisco Bay Guardian, Bay Area Reporter, as well as The Journal of Popular Film and Television, The Financial Times, Close-up (Italy), various Italian and Swiss film festival catalogs, and others. He served on juries at the Bergamo Film Meeting and the Torino International Film Festival in Italy in 1992, and programmed the jazz film series for the Locarno International Film Festival in Switzerland in 2001. In addition to his film and arts writing, he edits textbooks and writes marketing copy for publishers and book distributors. He lives in Portland, Oregon with his partner of 30 years, Gregory Battle.
