Edward Leos, while professor of Journalism at Penn State, rescued these fragile glass negatives from precarious storage in a corn crib! Several years of persistent and exacting effort have resulted in this splendid collection of images and a biography of the photographer who produced them. Prints of the Engle photographs are in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art and the William Penn Museum of the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission.
