Description:

"Of ways you may speak, / but not the Perennial Way; / By names you may name, / but not the Perennial Name." So begins the best-loved of all the classical books of China and the most universally popular, the Daodejing or Classic of the Way and Life-Force. Laozi (Lao Tzu), chinese philosopher, was a native of Chu, a southern state in the Zhou dynasty. His birth and death dates are uncertain. He is considered to be the founder of Taoism. According to legend, he set out on a journey to leave China. At the border, he was asked by a border guard to record his teachings. These teachings were compiled into what we know as the Tao-te-Ching, translated Classic of the Way and Virtue.
