This play is part of the translation series recently undertaken by OUP, translated from the Tamil by C.T. Indra. The legend of Nandan (1978) is very contemporary in its concerns because it superbly dramatises the clash between high-caste Hindus and the suppressed people. The low caste Nandan has a fine sense of the aesthetic as well as deep spiritual aspirations. He is choked off by both his own community as well as the uppercaste Hindus. The book painfully demonstrates how the establishment martyrs a man and destroys him.
