Cindy Ross, a freelance writer for a range of outdoor magazines and journals, was one of the original organizers in the 1980s of the Appalachian Long Distance Hikers Association. She has hiked all three major national scenic trails and is the author or co-author of five other books. This was her first title, originally published in 1982.
