Lisa Scottoline was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on July 1, 1955. She earned an undergraduate degree, and graduated magna cum laude in three years from the University of Pennsylvania, in 1976. Her B.A. degree was in English with a concentration in the Contemporary American Novel. She then graduated cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 1981, where she served as an Associate Editor, University of Pennsylvania Law Review.
