Humes,a professor of language and leadership at the University of Southern Colorado, is the author of numerous books, includingNixon's Ten Commandments of Leadership and Negotiation, Confessions of a White House Ghostwriter,andThe Wit and Wisdom of Winston Churchill.He served briefly in Eisenhower's White House and was a speaker, in London, for ceremonies commemorating Churchill's 125th birthday. During World War II, Nixon served as a Navy lieutenant commander in the Pacific. After he left the service, Nixon was elected to Congress and in 1950, won a Senate seat. Two years later, General Eisenhower selected Nixon, age 39, to be his running mate. They won, and Nixon learned much in the Vice Presidency.
