Description:

From the Mediterranean to the China Sea, the Silk Routes stretched for almost 5,000 miles through the heart of Asia. They crossed some of the most dangerous and spectacular terrain on Earth, including the Pamir Mountains, called "The Roof of the World," the Hindu Kush, and the notorious Taklamakan desert, whose shifting sands have been known to swallow up great cities. For the past two thousand years, people have been tempted to travel these routes. They looked for trade or treasure, or just to satisfy their curiosity. This book tells of the adventures these travelers had, what they found, and the contacts they made, exploring the Silk Routes. Book jacket.
