S Anandalakshmy received post-graduate degrees in Human Development and Education from Bryn Mawr College and the University of Wisconsin at Madison. She was responsible for instituting the master's course in Child Development at Lady Irwin College, University of Delhi. She was the Head of Department for several years, until she took over as Director of the College. She currently works as a peripatetic scholar and an independent advisor of voluntary organizations for children: SEWA in Ahmedabad, Volontariat in Puducherry and Bala Mandir in Chennai. She was the Consulting Editor for a recent Indian publication on Child Development. Also to her credit, in 2007, is a documentary film on… innovative activity-based methods in the Chennai Corporation schools.
