This book will revolutionize how you perceive skiing and ski lessonsLes Salmon draws on his experience gained over many years as a ski instructor. It is a priceless jewel not only for his ski instructor colleagues but for all who want to advance their capabilities as skiers. Skiing can be so easy. The author brings the reader to this simple realization in easily understandable language. Direct and spiced with a great deal of humour, Les explains skiing sequences, which at first appear complicated, simply and logically. This makes the subject matter comprehensible for pros and novices alike. The natural flow of movement is in the forefront of his book and Les founds his arguments logically. "Skiing is not more difficult than bicycling." This sounds provocative; but given proper and professional instruction the axiom proves to be true. What the Australian press said; In his book "Myths, Lies and Skiing" Les entertains and educates skiers with flair and fun. His simple directions will have new skiers feeling confident, intermediate skiers rapidly improving and experienced skiers wondering why it always seemed so hard in the past!"Myths, Lies etc" is easy to read and light hearted but technically punchy "how to" ski book. It will grab the reader's attention - whether it is their first time on snow or their thirtieth.Les Salmon is one of those people who make it easy for the new skier to get those turns going. Les is one of Vail- Beaver Creek Ski School's most highly regarded ski instructors. He dispenses his proven teaching techniques with a "down to earth" approach generously smattered with his biting Scottish humour.
Les is considered by many of his fellow professionals to be one of the world's top teachers A proud father of two daughters Les is an ex soldier, soccer player, stunt man, engineer, artist... the list goes on, He has traveled the world coaching a myriad of sports in four different languages. Cross training for the job as he calls it.He started teaching skiing while still at College in Scotland. After four seasons in Scottish ski area of Aviemore he went to work in the Alps starting in the Austrian Tyrol. Soon he moved on to Italy and then the French Alps working for several years in the French ski school in Les Arcs. His last stint working in Europe was running a Swedish ski school situated on the Swedish Norwegian border. He crossed the 'Pond' in 1997 to work in the Vail & Beaver Creek ski school in Colorado where he became a successful private coach to Royalty, Stars and some of the world's most influential business people. Working in the ski industry is a challenge as getting suitable employment in the summers can be difficult. Luckily he has managed to find some interesting summer jobs to complement his winter seasons. For five summers he worked in the St. Tropez area where he taught Scuba diving, sailing and wind surfing. One summer even saw him lead a trek across the Sahara. Getting somewhat 'fed up' moving from the mountains to the beach he got a job teaching horse riding at the Les Arc's Equestrian Center. This allowed him to stay in the one place for four years. He then returned to Scotland where he ran a hill-walking program for four summers. An opportunity came up to move to Sweden where he coached tennis. He taught at the ATL tennis school in Lund. Thanks to that experience he set up his own tennis school in the French Alps. He did this until rehab for knee surgeries forced him to relinquish the contract. Since 2003 he has been dividing his time between coaching skiing and soccer in Colorado.
